AI Takes Center Stage in International Copyright Discussions
Artificial intelligence emerged as the central focus of discussions during the meetings of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), bringing together government representatives, legal experts, collective management organizations, and stakeholders from the publishing and creative sectors to address the growing impact of AI on the global copyright system.
The discussions focused on the legal implications of using copyright-protected works to train artificial intelligence models and explored the need for more flexible licensing frameworks that enable the lawful use of creative content while safeguarding the economic and moral rights of authors and publishers.
