The latest figures released by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) reveal a historic milestone for the global copyright sector, with digital royalty collections exceeding €5 billion for the first time in 2024. This represents an 11.2% increase compared to the previous year and accounts for more than one-third of total global royalty collections managed by collective management organizations (CMOs), highlighting the rapid expansion of the digital creative economy.
The remarkable growth has been driven by the continued rise of music and content streaming services, subscription-based digital platforms, and improved licensing agreements between collective management organizations and online service providers. These developments have significantly increased revenues for authors, composers, publishers, and other rightsholders across the world.
According to CISAC, collective management organizations continue to play a critical role in ensuring that creators receive fair remuneration for the digital use of their works through efficient licensing systems and international cooperation. The report also underscores the growing importance of digital markets in supporting the long-term sustainability of the creative industries and reinforcing copyright protection as a key driver of innovation, investment, and economic growth in the global creative economy.
