International Cooperation Among Collective Management Organizations Expands to Strengthen Cross-Border Copyright Protection
International cooperation among Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) continued to expand during the past few months, with several bilateral agreements signed under the framework of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO). These agreements aim to strengthen cross-border copyright protection and enhance collaboration between member organizations worldwide.
The new partnerships focus on reciprocal representation agreements that enable CMOs to manage rights on behalf of one another, while facilitating the collection and distribution of royalties generated from the use of copyright-protected works across international markets. This ensures that authors, publishers, and other rightsholders receive fair and timely remuneration, regardless of where their works are used.
The growing network of international agreements reflects the increasingly important role of collective management organizations in supporting the global copyright ecosystem, particularly as digital publishing and cross-border content distribution continue to expand. By promoting cooperation, sharing best practices, and harmonizing licensing processes, these partnerships enhance transparency, improve the efficiency of rights management, and provide creators with broader opportunities to benefit from their work in international markets. They also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the creative industries by ensuring that copyright protection remains effective in an increasingly interconnected digital environment.
